Nativity CYO Basketball Registration Underway
The Church of Nativity CYO program is offering basketball for all parish students in the 4th through the 8th grades. Registration is open to all parish families. Tryouts have been scheduled for the week of October 31. Specific days and times by grade are yet to be determined so please watch for additional information.
All players need to register with the Archdiocese CYO office. If your son or daughter has already registered with the Archdiocese for football or volleyball and paid the one-time $25 registration fee, then this fee is not required again for basketball. Otherwise, if this is the first CYO sport your son or daughter is playing this year, you will need to register at www.cyojwa.org and pay the one-time $25 Archdiocese fee.
Registration Deadlines
The basketball registration fee is $85 per player until October 30. After October 30, the late registration fee will be $100 per player. Click here to register.
Participation
Basketball is open to all Nativity parishioners in 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. The basketball coordinator sets up each tryout session (one for each grade), in which skills are objectively evaluated by a third-party individual. Only players who have registered in advanced will be allowed to participate in tryouts. Tryouts will be based on skill level, players are placed on A, B, C or D teams for their grade; exception for 4th grade, these players are placed on evenly divided skill level teams. Players will be notified by the coach of the team they are placed after the evaluation process is complete.
A special note regarding siblings in the same grade: To be fair, it is not possible to honor requests to have siblings on the same team. However, they can be on the same team if: 1) it is objectively determined through the tryout process (based on skill), or 2) after teams are formed, the student on the higher-level team chooses to move down to his or her sibling’s lower-level team.
Required Uniforms and Equipment
Players will need to purchase the required CYO uniform. Instructions for purchase will be provided at tryouts. Players are encouraged to wear their uniforms to the tryouts. If they are new to the program, any other numbered jersey can be worn for tryouts.
Practice
Practice is held twice a week beginning in mid-November through February.
Games
Games are played on weekends beginning in December through March. Once determined, the schedule will be posted on the CYO website.
Coaching
Parent volunteers are needed and each must be VIRTUS-trained prior to having any contact with the team. Two coaches are needed for each team. All coaches need to be Virtus trained. We are also looking for two individuals to take over the Nativity CYO Basketball Coordinator positions for next year.
