Anointing of the Sick
Throughout his ministry, Jesus would often lay his hands upon those who were sick and healed them. He also sent out the twelve apostles to heal in his name, and they “anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them” (Mark 6:13). The Catholic Church sees the Anointing of the Sick as a Sacrament.
They base this on James: 5:14-15: “Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven.”
Anyone can request this Sacrament. Many request it during a serious illness or before surgery. It should also be requested when death is imminent. Please call the Parish Office at 491.5017 to request this sacrament.
