Short Notes

Special Collection For Haiti

As you know, a devastating earthquake has struck the country of Haiti where 80% of the nearly 10 million inhabitants live below the poverty level.  It is the poorest country in the western hemisphere.

Initial reports suggest that thousands upon thousands have died with schools, churches, hospitals and public buildings collapsed all around the capital city of Porte-au-Prince; countless others are injured and homeless.  The country does not possess the necessary resources to even begin to address the overwhelming rescue, medical and recovery demands.

At the request of Archbishop Naumann, all parishes and faith-communities were asked to take up a special collection this weekend, January 16th and 17th.

If you are not prepared to make a donation this weekend, just mail your checks to the Parish Office.

You may submit donations in cash or by check. Make checks payable to: Church of the Nativity and place in the collection basket or mail to the Parish Office. Mark all donations clearly as “Haiti Relief.” The money will be forwarded to the Archdiocese and they will submit to Catholic Relief Services. If you submit cash, make sure it is in an envelope.

The annual special collection for the Church in Latin America will be taken up on January 23rd and 24th.  The USCCB has indicated that much of that collection will be directed to institutions in Haiti.

We pray for the victims of this terrible disaster, for their families and for all who are involved in the rescue and recovery efforts.

Thank you.
